The virtual event was moderated by Julia Klein, Mountain Sentinels.

UNFCCC COP30 approves dialogue on mountains and climate change in 2026

Mountains gained significant recognition from the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, with the announcement of a mandated dialogue on mountains and climate change under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) process. This marks another important step forward in integrating the priorities and unique vulnerabilities of mountain regions into global climate policy and action.

Svalbard seed vault to take Peruvian potato samples

Farmers in the Potato Park in Cusco, Peru, are sending 1,500 varieties of potatoes to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault to safeguard the tubers' future. The samples will be stored in a vault inside a mountain, which aims to protect the world's food crop species against natural and human disasters, and promote the conservation of biodiversity and seed preservation.
